US cardinal Raymond Burke stokes papal tensions by meeting nationalist in Rome

The politician he met with does not like PF at all and is a kind of Italian Trump, very right-wing and nationalist.   I recently saw a photo on Twitter of this politician holding up T-shirts with a picture of PF on it and the caption “Not my pope…” with “Benedict XVI is” at the bottom.  Some say his party has connections to some very wealthy right-wing “Catholic” groups in this country .  There also connections between Burke and Steve Bannon in this country that are troubling.  Just coincidence that the nasty posters against PF came out within 2 days of this metting?  Who else would have the money to print 200 posters and a team to put them up overnight.  There is an error in the article.  It says Burke met the man in his apartment “in the Vatican”.  Burke does not live “in the Vatican’ but in an apartment across the Tiber.  …reyanna

A powerful American cardinal who is engaged in a bitter feud with Pope Francis has met Matteo Salvini, the rightwing Italian nationalist who is a staunch supporter of Donald Trump and has praised Benito Mussolini.

The reported meeting between Cardinal Raymond Burke and Salvini, the head of the Northern League party, is a sign that intense divisions between traditionalists and the pope are becoming increasingly political.
