This page will be dedicated to documents and resources relating to Vatican II
There are many links on the internet to the documents of Vatican II. The link above is to the documents in the Vatican archives.
We highly recommend these two resources “Vatican II” and the “Spirituality of Vatican II”
for you or your faith group. They are available individually or as a bundle from Now You Know Media. We have revisited our sets more than once, on our own and with faith groups and each listening brings new insight!

Vatican II by John O’Malley
The Second Vatican Council concluded fifty years ago, but it is a livelier topic today than it has been for decades. Basic questions are being asked. What did the council do? Was it properly implemented? Are its decisions being systematically “rolled back”?
Good questions, but to answer them good information is needed. Such information is precisely what these twelve insightful lectures provide. You will discover the story of the council from its convocation by Pope John XXIII in 1959 to its conclusion in 1965. They reveal a dramatic clash between a large majority (85% to 90%) and a small but determined minority. Why did these two groups take their positions so passionately, who were their protagonists, and how did Pope John XXIII and Pope Paul VI respond?
Explore the issues that rocked the council. How should the Church deal with non-Christian religions, such as Islam? What is the true nature of the liturgy? How is the Church to deal with the “new churches” emerging in Africa and Asia? Is freedom to choose one’s religion compatible with Catholicism? Is there any limit to the authority of the Roman Curia? Why did Pope Paul VI remove certain topics from the agenda?
These lectures will give you the orientation you need to understand one of the most important events of the 20th century, to appreciate the problems it faced, and to grapple with the questions being asked about it (and the Catholic Church) today.

The Spirituality of Vatican II
50 years ago, over 2000 bishops, theologians, and lay participants from 116 countries gathered in Rome. This assembly of minds, “quite possibly the biggest meeting in the history of the world” (O’Malley, What Happened at Vatican II), was the twenty-first worldwide council of the Church, the Second Vatican Council. Led by Popes John XXIII and Paul VI, what emerged was an intense examination of the voice and promptings of the Holy Spirit.
Vatican II radically shaped the spirituality and doctrine of the Catholic Church in the 20th and 21st centuries, and its documents are as relevant today as ever. Indeed, Pope Benedict XVI declared 2012–2013 as the “Year of Faith” to mark the anniversary of Vatican II. This year, he said, will provide a “new impetus to the mission of the whole Church to lead men… to the place of life, of friendship with Christ.”
Now, in The Spirituality of Vatican II, you will discover how the 16 Council documents can shape your faith and relationship with Christ today. Presented by spirituality expert Fr. Anthony Ciorra, Ph.D., this audio program captures the energy of the Council by examining the spirituality behind the Council documents.
When Vatican II opened on October 11, 1962, Pope John XXIII prayed for a new Pentecost for the renewal of the Church that would bring hope to the world. Both timely and timeless, this course penetrates the heart of the Council, providing a model of personal growth that will help you encounter the issues and concerns faced by Church in the twenty-first century.
